You heard that right, the Krusty Krab, famous for the Krabby Patty, is now part of our world. Originating in the children’s show “Spongebob Squarepants,” kids everyone wished they could just have a taste of the krabby patty. Now, kids in Palestine can.
Salta Burger is the first restaurant (and hopefully not the last) to be inspired by the Krusty Krab. It opened up on July 24th, 2014 in the Palestinian city of Ramallah, in the West Bank. Everyone is completely exctited for it, especially Raghad Awad who said “it’s beautiful, it’s the first time there is something like this for Palestine.” Awad is 11.
Before the restaurant even opened its doors, the restaurant was hit with social media and was bombarded with social media attention. It was even included in a post by Fusion.
Nejmah Awad who lives in Ramallah said that the burger joint was a source fof local pride. The 23-year-old said that he “was just scrolling through Facebook this morning and and I see all these people from the United States – they are not Arabic, they are not Palestinian, and they are all envying Palestine because we have [Krusty Krab] now.”
If the restaurant does well, which we hope it will, they plan on expanding further and opening up new restaurants. Co-owner Nidaa Fsaisi-Soboh said that “We hope that, next year, the first branch will be in Gaza, because the children of Gaza need this.”
The Krust Krab has the flags on top, the window net at the side, and even includes a very large Mr. Krabs that you can see and hug, located on the outside. It is a complete treat for kids in Palestine and is surprising that it has not been seen in North America. Perhaps in the future we will see more popping up!
